Fall River Schools virus report for week ending September 17th shows marked increase

Interim Superintendent Maria Pontes’ Administration has issued an updated and detailed report concerning COVID-19 and Fall River Public Schools for the week ending September 17th.

The data dashboard is as follows:

Total Number of Students (does not include students in out-of-district placements): 10,104

Number of New Positive Students: 35

Number of Students Currently in Quarantine Due to Exposure at School: 103

Number of Students Currently in Quarantine Due to Non-School Exposure: 78

Total Number of Students Currently in Quarantine: 181

Total Number of Employees: 1,920

Number of Employees Newly Reported This Week with a Positive COVID-19 Status: 5

Number of Employees Currently Quarantined Due to Exposure at School: 0

Number of Employees Currently Quarantined Due to Non-School Exposure: 3

Total Number of Employees Currently in Quarantine: 3

Note: Quarantine period is 14 days: quarantined students and staff may appear in more than one week.

This week’s report shows an increase in students testing positive from 25 last week which reflects the continued rise in cases in Fall River. Students in quarantine took a major jump from the previous week of 66.

As seen in Thursday’s Massachusetts COVID-19 report issued by the Massachusetts Department of Health, Fall River’s COVID-19 community spread rate the last two weeks is 31.8 per 100,000, a figure the city was seeing back in mid-April.

From Monday to Wednesday of this week, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education reported 1,230 student cases and 190 staff cases. In the final report for the last school year in mid-June, DESE reported just 53 student cases and 5 staff cases for a one week period.
