On Saturday November 18th 2017 Fall River Police Department Officers William Platt and B. Wixon were dispatched to Joe’s Liquor Store, located at 90 Eagle Street, in regards to an Armed Robbery. Upon police arrival, store employees told officers that a female wearing a dark jacket, jeans, brown boots, and a pink scarf wrapped around her face attempted to rob the store.
At approximately 9:18 p.m., a male and female entered the store to purchase a ‘blunt wrap’, but were 50 cents short. The male went to the back of the store, approached the stocking clerk, and asked for any spare change. As this was going on, the female went behind the counter and demanded all of the money from the register. The register clerk told her to get out of the store. The female began pushing and screaming while demanding all of the money. A struggle ensued. The stocking clerk, who said she was being distracted on purpose, ran to the front of the store and assisted the register clerk in removing the female and the male from the store. The register clerk began to follow the male and female, but the female shouted “don’t follow me, I have a gun”.
A review of the store security video was performed and a more detailed description was broadcast to area police units. At approximately 9:40 p.m. Officer S. Aquiar detained a female matching the description that was broadcast. Officer Platt then staged a ‘show up’ identification. The female was identified by the clerks and taken into custody. As this was taking place, Officers were approached by a male questioning why the female was being arrested. As the male approached, he was identified by the store employees as the male who distracted by the stocking clerk. This male was then taken into custody.
Christine Bastille age 40 and Herbert Sampson age 41 have been charged with Attempted Armed Robbery while Masked.
