Fall River Police have arrested a man on multiple felony gun charges.

According to Captain Barden Castro, on Sunday, at approximately 11:30 a.m., officers assigned to the Fall River Police Department Housing Unit were on patrol in the Corky Row section of the city.

While on patrol, officers spotted a Honda sedan drive through the intersection of Morgan and Second Streets without stopping at the posted stop sign.

Officers conducted a vehicle stop due to the observed driving infraction. While the driver was able to produce a driver’s license, he was unable to produce the car’s registration. While officers checked the status of the operator’s license and car registration, they noticed that a passenger in the car was moving around reaching for something. To ensure the safety of everyone, the passenger was removed from the car. As the male passenger, later identified as 22-year-old Robert Bruton, got out of the car it was noticed that he was sitting on top of a jacket which was also removed from the car. A frisk of the jacket found that a loaded Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun was inside the pocket.

Castro stated that Bruton has not been issued a Massachusetts License to Carry and cannot legally possess the pistol.

Bruton was placed under arrest for felony firearms offenses.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the status of the pistol.
