Fall River Police make 2 drug arrests

On Tuesday, January 23rd at approximately 12:30 p.m., Fall River Police Department Vice and Intelligence Detectives executed a search warrant at 1123 Plymouth Avenue in Fall River.  Detective Steven Washington was the lead detective and Paul Souza, 72, was the target.  Detective Washington was assisted by Detectives Joshua Robillard, Gary Barboza, Luis Duarte, Tryce Garrant, Richard Aguiar, James Elumba, Athans Parousis and Detective Sergeant Andrew Joseph.

During the execution of the search warrant, Detectives secured the occupant identified as Paul Souza and subsequently searched the apartment. During the search, 93 Suboxone film strips were located in a plastic bag. A large amount of cash was also confiscated.

Paul Souza age 72 was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Class B substance with intent to Distribute.

On Wednesday, January 24th at approximately 5:00 p.m., Fall River Police Department Vice and Intelligence Detectives executed a search warrant at 20 Albion Street on the first floor in Fall River.  Detective Gary Barboza was the lead Detective and Kyle C. Schwartz, 27, and the vehicle he was operating were the targets.  Detective Washington was assisted by Detectives Joshua Robillard, Steven Washington, Luis Duarte, Tryce Garrant, Richard Aguiar, James Elumba, Athans Parousis and Detective Sergeant Andrew Joseph.

Mr. Schwartz and his vehicle, a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, were observed traveling on Albion Street and stopped just south of the 20 Albion Street location. Detectives made their way to 20 Albion Street where they made entry to the first-floor apartment with the key provided by Schwartz.

During the execution of the search warrant, Schwartz was asked if there were any narcotics or firearms present in the apartment. Schwartz stated there were none. At this point, Detective Barboza retrieved his K9 partner Capone. Canine Capone is trained in the detection of different illegal substances not limited to Cocaine and three commonly abused prescription medications. As K9 Capone entered the apartment Mr. Schwartz escorted Detectives to the bathroom where he pointed out a large plastic bag. Detective Garrant retrieved the bag which contained two bags of a substance believed to be crack cocaine. Also located were a large amount of cash and a digital scale. Approximately 54.3 grams of suspected crack cocaine was located.

Kyle C. Schwartz age 27 was placed under arrest and charged with Trafficking in Cocaine.
