A robbery was reported at a Fall River food pantry this morning.

According to witnesses, the robbery took place in the basement of St. Anne’s Church in the food pantry between 9:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Patricia Cativo was volunteering at the food pantry with her children at the time of the incident. “Two women snuck into the back room where we store food for the needy. They proceeded to steal the cash donations that we use to buy groceries for the needy. Our pantry has received less donations this year than previous years. That money was going to purchase items we have ran out of. We were all upset because we did not see it because we were busy helping all of our guests at the pantry. My kids thought they were new volunteers. We help a large population of elderly. Whoever you were, know you are only taking from those we assist in our community.”

If you have any details, contact the Fall River Police Department at (508) 676-8511.

If you would like to make a donation to the food pantry, you can mail in a donation to the pantry made out to St. Anne’s Food Pantry at 858 Middle Street, Fall River, MA 02721. You can also drop off donations to the pantry on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Cereal, canned tuna, canned chicken, and peanut butter are some of the items they are looking for in particular. Items that can be opened easily by some of the homeless patrons would be most preferred.
