Fall River Police investigating after hit-and-run seriously injures skateboarder

Fall River Police are investigating a serious hit-and-run crash that has left a Fall River man seriously injured.

According to Captain Barden Castro, officers responded to the area of Brayton Avenue and Jefferson Street on Wednesday at approximately 6:37 a.m. for a skateboarder who had been struck by a vehicle.

The investigation revealed that the skateboarder was struck from behind and by a vehicle which fled the scene without stopping. The skateboarder was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for medical treatment.

The victim described to Fall River Reporter what took place.

“(I was) heading up Brayton Ave. from Cumberlands to Supreme. I made it to the intersection where Eds BBQ was at, but before I could get to the sidewalk, before the intersection and light, the car hit me as I was on my skateboard, threw me in the air, back into traffic. I could hear it speed up but couldn’t fully turn to see before it hit me. My board has an odometer, and I was going 20mph, so the car had to be going much faster. The car never even braked. I was awake the whole time, crawled to the sidewalk and waved down help with my phone’s flashlight. The passerby helped me call 911. There was 1 witness of the car blasting through the red light before they hit me.

Among the victim’s injuries are a broken leg, road rash, deep bruising on both elbows, and whiplash in the chest and neck. His helmet was also destroyed, according to the victim, which left him pretty shaken.

The suspect vehicle was described as a black sedan last seen traveling west on Brayton Avenue.
