Fall River Police donate to family of 6-year-old battling Leukemia

A young Fall River boy and his family are in a serious battle, and the Fall River Police Department has pitched in to help.

On Wednesday, the Fall River Police Department teamed up with Cops For Kids With Cancer to present a donation to the Ouellette family.

In February of this year, Henry Thomas Ouellette was diagnosed with Leukemia after a routine visit to the doctor for a cough and difficulty breathing.

Canton Police Chief Helena Rafferty, President of Cops for Kids with Cancer, came to the Fall River Police Station Wednesday afternoon to meet Henry and provide his family with a check to assist with the many expenses families face when fighting pediatric cancer. Henry’s parents, Thomas and Kayla, accepted the check. Captain Barden H. Castro, Fall River Police, was on hand for the presentation and to meet with the family.

Henry’s case is treatable and beatable, but those treatments, and the expenses that occur because of them, can mount quickly.

The family faces frequent trips to Hasbro Children’s Hospital with current sky-high gas prices. Henry’s parents are also dealing with lost wages due to time out of work.

A GoFundMe fundraiser page has generated over $46,000 as of this writing.

Cops for Kids with Cancer is a registered charitable organization focused on raising funds to provide assistance to families of children battling cancer. Founded in 2002 the organization started by donating money to oncology units at children’s hospitals; in 2008 direct donations began to be provided to families to help them with the many expenses these families face.
