What was reported as a machete attack turned out to be no machete attack at all.

According to police, on Sunday, Fall River Police Patrol Officers investigated a reported machete attack near Bicentennial Park.

The person reporting the incident came to the Fall River Police Department approximately one hour after the alleged incident occurred. At the time the report was made, the “victim” was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol.

Because of the serious nature of the allegation, officers conducted a thorough investigation. After taking the initial statement, officers responded to the area of Remington Avenue, where the incident was reported to have occurred.

Officers interviewed several witnesses and determined that the facts did not support the original allegation. Witness statements conflicted with the reporting party’s account, and investigators found no evidence that a machete was involved. The investigation determined that the incident was a verbal argument between individuals who know each other.
