Fall River Police Department recruiting Auxiliary Police Officers
The Fall River Police Department is currently recruiting and accepting applications for volunteer Auxiliary Police Officers. The Auxiliary Police Division was established in the Fall River Police Department in 1950.
The Division comprises 30 volunteer members who assist the Department with assignments from the Chief of Police and are on duty every week throughout the year. Duties are traffic control and direction at parades and processions, also crime prevention and security details at community and charitable events. They also assist the Emergency Management Director of the City during emergencies.
Eligibility requirements are U.S.A. citizens age 18 to 65, residents of Fall River, Freetown, Somerset, Swansea, and Westport only, no criminal felony record, current Massachusetts driver’s license, excellent health and physical fitness, good moral character, high school graduate or general education equivalency certificate, successfully complete a thorough background investigation and interview board. Weekend availability is imperative and a minimum of 4 volunteer hours per week including a monthly meeting and training class is mandatory.
Successful candidates must successfully complete the Auxiliary Police Officer Basic Training Program for recruits. Instruction will be classroom, field, and on the job training. Upon appointment, equipment and uniforms are issued by the Department. The training will be automated external defibrillator, baton, cardio pulmonary resuscitation, Department rules/regulations-polices/procedures, and organization, first responder first aid, radio communications, report writing, patrol procedures, police vehicle operation, and traffic.
