Both suspects in a Fall River machete attack are now in custody.

According to police, during the early morning hours on Wednesday, members of the FRPD CAST Team found 38-year-old Danny Nieves, the second suspect wanted for the October 15th machete attack at the Brayton Avenue homeless encampment.

Nieves tried to run from officers. The foot pursuit was brief and very “short,” and CAST Team members took him into custody without further incident.

Nieves was wanted on warrants for Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon and Armed Robbery.

He is expected to be arraigned Wednesday in Fall River District Court.

A 35-year-old male victim in the machete attack was transported to Rhode Island with head injuries and was alert and provided an initial statement to responding officers.

It appears that the victim and suspects may be known to each other.

Acting Chief J.T. Hoar told Fall River Reporter on Saturday that after an investigation, the two suspects were identified in the encampment incident.

43-year-old Jason Ramalho was arrested Friday by the CAST Team and is facing charges of Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon and Armed Robbery.

Court records show that at arraignment Friday in Fall River District Court, Ramalho pled not guilty and was being held on bail of $75,000 surety bond or $7,500 cash.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for November 13th.

This case came together through a team effort. Patrol Bureau officers handled the initial response; the Major Crimes Division ran the investigation and C.A.S.T. made both arrests.
