A Fall River mother and daughter came to the rescue of a seagull Wednesday night.

Fatima Ferreira spotted a tipsy seagull located at The Tipsy Seagull (yes you read that correctly).

The seagull attempted to land on a post in the water down by the restaurant when the animal fell to a five foot drop because the post was hollow. According to her daughter Jen, her mother called animal control, but they were closed. The police were also called. While Fatima waited for police to respond, she called her animal loving daughter Jen to try and rescue the seagull. Jen had just helped two roosters who were on the loose on Bay Street two weeks prior.

Jen arrived to the scene with some rope. While Jen put the rope down in a loop, mom held the flashlight over the area in an attempt to make a rescue.

Fatima’s boyfriend Jose deserves some recognition as well as he held both women by their belt loops as they both had to lean over to rescue the bird. If Jose had happened to let go of the belt loops, there go both ladies into the water.

After numerous attempts, the gull finally was secured with the rope. Now that the rope was secure under the bird, Jen pulled him up and grabbed him. After the rescue the bird quickly flew away.

The rescue team then covered the post with material in hopes that another seagull doesn’t fall victim.

Fatima felt she was there at the right time. “I’m glad I asked Jose to go for a walk and called Jen because that bird would’ve died.”

Congratulations to all on a job well done!
