Fall River man wanted in city shooting that injured 42-year-old man arrested in Rhode Island
A Fall River man has been arrested after a shooting that took place in the city this week that resulted in injuries.
According to Detective Sergeant Moses Pereira, on Monday, September 18, 2023, at approximately 6:15 p.m., a man contacted police and stated that he had been shot on the 100 block of Choate Street. He indicated that he was enroute to a local hospital for medical assistance.
The victim, a 42-year-old Fall River resident, sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the incident. He told investigators that he had been shot by an individual known to him, however investigators were unable to confirm the identity of the suspect at that time.
On Wednesday, Detective Matthew Gauvin of the Major Crimes Division was able to confirm the identity of the shooting suspect as, 29-year-old Mohamadou Kante III of Fall River.
With the assistance of the Middletown and Newport Police, Kante was taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit in Rhode Island.
Following rendition proceedings, Kante is expected to be returned to Massachusetts where he will be charged with assault and battery with a firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 ft. of a dwelling, firearm violation with two prior violent or drug crimes, carrying a firearm without a license, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.
