Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn, III announced today that a 39 year old Fall River man with a lengthy record was sentenced to serve up to four years in state prison for a drug conviction.
Richard Ferreira pleaded guilty in Fall River Superior Court last week to a one count indictment charging him with possession to distribute a class B drug.
On November 5, 2016, Fall River Police responded to the defendant’s residence in order to serve him with an outstanding arrest warrant. After Ferreira was placed under arrest, officers observed other individuals attempting to jump out a window in the home. Officers then performed a protective sweep of the home and observed items related to drug packaging in plain view. A search of the defendant resulted in the discovery of a large amount of Fentanyl and US currency. Police obtained a search warrant for the residence and located scales, baggies, and other instruments of drug distribution along with over $30,000 in US currency.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Dan Walsh and the prison sentence was handed down by Judge Thomas McGuire Jr.
“The defendant is reaping significant financial profits by selling fentanyl, a drug which has caused a substantial increase in fatal overdoses in Bristol county,” District Attorney Quinn said. “The state prison sentence is appropriate.”
