A Fall River man who died from injuries sustained in a workplace incident on Thursday was a rising actor.
According to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III, Freetown Police and EMS were dispatched to Excel Recycling at 17 Ridge Hill Road at approximately noon after receiving 911 calls reporting that someone had been struck by a front loader and was injured on the property. Upon arrival, police located the front loader in question and located the male victim, who was an employee of Excel Recycling, on the ground near the front loader suffering from significant injuries.
The victim, who was identified as 52-year-old David Torres of Fall River, MA, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time after arrival.
Torres began acting in 2019 after landing a role in the movie Jungleland which was filmed in Fall River. Since then, he has worked in features, shorts, and background roles, often in crime and character parts.
According to IMDb and Torres’ social media, his best-known credit is the award-winning film Eephus (2024), in which he played Dilberto D. Nunez. Other screen work includes Chosen Family (2024) as a rehab patient; appearances in Boston Strangler (2023) as a Bridgewater State Prison inmate, Hocus Pocus 2 (2022) as a teacher, and Confess, Fletch (2022) as a Boston police detective; and Article 92 (2025) as hitman Carneiro. Torres wasn’t just fulfilling his dream as an actor. Those who knew him described him as an amazing man and a hard worker. He was also a father, a newlywed, humble, generous and kind. Friends and those who had worked with him both as an actor and at Excel didn’t have a bad word to say about him.
The investigation into Torres’ death is active and ongoing by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office along with Freetown Police.
