Fall River man deemed dangerous, held without bail after attempted armed carjacking, fight with police
A 41-year-old Fall River man arrested earlier this month on a litany of charges related to an attempted armed carjacking and an ensuing struggle with police, was found dangerous and ordered held without bail for up to 120 days recently, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.
Luis Negron was found “dangerous” on April 17 by Judge Kevin Finnerty after a telephonic dangerousness hearing was held on that same date. The matter was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Schmidt.
Negron is facing charges of firearm-armed carjacking, assault with a dangerous weapon, attempt to disarm a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer, distribution of a class D drug, carrying an illegal firearm, and committing an illegal firearm violation with a prior violent/drug related conviction.
The charges stem from an incident on April 13, when Fall River Police responded to the South Main Street parking lot of K & S Laundromat for a report of a carjacking.
When police arrived, the alleged victim told authorities he had been working on his car when Negron allegedly approached while pointing a gun and accused him of having an affair with his girlfriend.
Negron ordered the man get into his vehicle but the victim refused. Negron then entered the car himself and attempted to drive the car, but then fled when the engine would not start.
Thanks to the assistance of witnesses on scene, officers were able to track the defendant to an address on Ridge Street. An officer found the defendant hiding in the basement, and during a struggle, the defendant allegedly tried to grab the officer’s service weapon.
Officers also removed nearly 100 marijuana plants from the home.
“I am pleased the court held the defendant without bail based on the allegations of serious acts of violence,” District Attorney Quinn said. “He has a significant criminal history that includes being a fugitive from justice. He does not belong out on the streets.”
