Fall River man dead after crash on Route 24 in Freetown
A Fall River man has died after a crash early this morning.
According to Massachusetts State Police, shortly after 3:10 a.m., Massachusetts State Troopers assigned to the Dartmouth Barracks responded to a car that went off Route 24 into the wood line in Freetown. The crash resulted in fatal injuries to the driver and sole occupant.
Preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 3:10 p.m. a 2010 Toyota Camry was northbound on Route 24 in the vicinity of the 12.2 mile marker when, for reasons still under investigation, it exited the right edge of the road and struck a tree.
The occupant, a 49-year-old male from Fall River, was removed from the vehicle and transported to St. Lukes Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The crash remains under investigation by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and Bristol detective unit.
Troopers were assisted on scene by Freetown Police, Fire and EMS.
The scene was cleared by approximately 5 a.m.
The victim’s name is not being released due to notification of next of kin.
