Massachusetts State Police arrested two suspects after a crash and pursuit on Sunday.

According to Dave Procopio of the Massachusetts State Police, at approximately 6 p.m. Sunday a Massachusetts State Police patrol unit observed a 2006 Ford 150 pickup traveling on Warren Street in Fall River that the Troopers wanted to stop.

The pickup was traveling in the opposite direction as the cruiser, so the Troopers began to flip around with the intention of getting behind the suspect vehicle.

The two occupants of the pickup truck, however, saw the cruiser turning around and accelerated into the intersection of Warren and Rodman Street in an attempt to evade the Troopers. The suspect vehicle fled before the Troopers activated their blue lights and without a pursuit being initiated.

The suspect vehicle crashed into four other vehicles in the intersection, causing several injuries. Following the crashes, the driver and passenger in the suspect vehicle fled on foot.

One Trooper caught up to the fleeing driver, who resisted arrest. The Trooper subdued the suspect after deploying his department-issued electronic control weapon. While the apprehension was taking place, a second Trooper began providing medical aid to those injured in the crash.

The suspect who was arrested was Richard B. Holivay, 50, of Fall River. He was charged with the following offenses:

– Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle;
– Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle;
– Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle;
– Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle;
– Leaving the Scene of a Crash Causing Personal Injury;
– Resisting Arrest; and
– A warrant.

The passenger in the suspect vehicle was not located.

The four vehicles struck by the suspect were a Ford Focus, a Toyota Corolla, a Mazda M5, and a Dodge Ram pickup. Two teenage males were transported to hospitals in Rhode Island for treatment of minor injuries.

Following his arrest, Holivay complained of possible injuries suffered in the motor vehicle crashes; he was transported to Rhode Island Hospital under MSP guard for examination.

According to Detective John Robinson, FRPD officers assisted with traffic during the incident.
