Fall River man arrested after standoff that placed school in lockdown

Fall River Police have resolved an incident that affected a city school.
According to Lieutenant Matthew Mendes, earlier this afternoon, officers responded to a call for service on Lawton Street regarding a domestic-related incident. During the response, a male subject, who was alone inside his residence, barricaded himself, indicated he was armed, and threatened to harm law enforcement officers if they attempted to enter.
Due to the seriousness of the situation, a perimeter was established around the residence, the block was cordoned off, and nearby schools, including Letourneau, were temporarily placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure. The Emergency Service Unit (ESU) was activated and responded to the scene.
ESU personnel successfully took the individual into custody without further incident. Mendes stated that efforts are being made to ensure he receives the necessary support and assistance. Additionally, the individual will be charged appropriately for his actions, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Mendes said the department appreciated the professionalism of the officers and the cooperation of the community in ensuring a safe resolution to this incident.
