Fall River man accused of breaking into, damaging, and stealing from Somerset business
SOMERSET — Chief Todd Costa and the Somerset Police Department report that a suspect allegedly involved in a break-in last month has been arrested and charged.
On Tuesday, November 23, at approximately 3:15 a.m., Somerset Police were dispatched to Lit Vape Smoke Shop, 1140 Riverside Avenue, for a report of a break-in. The reporting party told police that she heard glass breaking in the store and then observed a male suspect — later identified as 39-year-old Nicholas Spano of Fall River — fleeing south on Riverside Avenue.
Upon arrival, patrol officers observed that one of the store’s front windows was damaged. Officers also learned that the suspect allegedly stole $300 in cash, cigarette packs and the cash register drawer.
Through the subsequent investigation, led by lead investigator Detective James Cardella with the assistance of detectives assigned to the detective division, police identified Spano as the suspect, who is known to police.
Somerset Police obtained a warrant for Spano’s arrest out of Fall River District Court. He was arrested on Dec. 1 in Fall River.
Spano was charged with Breaking and Entering into a Building in the Nighttime to Commit a Felony, Malicious Destruction of Property Under $1,200, Larceny from a Building, and Common and Notorious Thief.
Spano was expected to be arraigned in Fall River District Court on Friday.
