Fall River Public Library offering free pregnancy and labor support classes

Published

on

Fall River Public Library, 104 North Main Street, will offer a free pregnancy and labor support workshop for expectant mothers and partners. The class will be offered two times: in the evening on Thursday, August 16 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. and in the morning on Saturday, September 29 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., so that people with different schedules can attend.

The workshop will be led by Gabriela Sime of True Soul Doula. A doula is a birth coach who works one-on-one with mothers to provide support during pregnancy and labor and after childbirth.  Doulas are not doctors, nurses, or midwives; they are trained professionals who offer emotional, physical, and educational support to women before, during, and after childbirth. Topics to be covered include pregnancy comfort measures, what to expect during labor, best positions for different stages of labor, pain management options, basics of newborn care, and different kinds of caregivers available.

Pregnant women and partners are encouraged to attend. Registration is required. To register for either the August or September class, call the library circulation desk at 508-324-2700, ext. 2.
