Fall River in early stages of having semi-pro football team
Fall River has begun the process of having a semi-pro Football team.
According to Steven Moniz, who is part of the group who has begun the process, a facility for practices has already been secured. “We are still in the very early organizational phase but we are full speed ahead to make this happen. We have secured a practice facility. We are still awaiting confirmation from a league and trying to obtain Durfee as a home venue.”
Moniz, who is a Durfee graduate, has a football background himself. He works in public relations for the Massachusetts Pirates of the National Arena League who play in Worcester. He is also a coach for the Bay State Buccaneers of the Eastern Football League who’s home stadium is Brockton High School. “I coached the Bucs for 6 years but will be resigning to join the Fall River Cavalry.” Moniz is also one of the founding fathers of the Fall River Falcons youth football program where he served as President for the first several years over 30 years ago. “I was on the football staff at Durfee from 1985 to 1995 and also coached track at Connolly.”
Moniz gave more details into the venture. “We are targeted to be a AAA team. We are presently looking to play in the New England Football League. Kevin J. Corbin, Jr. is our principal owner.” The Fall River Cavalry would support The New England Cavalry of the NAF.
The Fall River Cavalry currently have a Facebook page. If you have interest or want to get involved, click here.
