Fall River, Heritage State Park, to celebrate Portuguese immigration and the life and work of Joe Raposo

The Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese-American Archives at UMass Dartmouth, the Department of Conservation and Recreation, and the City of Fall River will be celebrating Portuguese immigration and the wonderful life and magical world of Portuguese American composer Joe Raposo and his Muppet friends.

Be there for the declaration of “Joe Raposo Day” by Paul Coogan, Mayor of Fall River, meet the Raposo family, and see a screening of “Sing!” a rare Sesame Street© tribute film to Raposo on a big screen in Heritage State Park’s air-conditioned theater.

You can also explore the groundbreaking exhibit: A Glimpse Into Portuguese American Immigrations: Through photographs, rare newspaper articles, and other insightful documents, this exhibit offers a glimpse into the experience of the region’s dominant ethnic community. Fall River Heritage State Park features a monument to local Portuguese American poet Joao Teixeira de Medeiros. This exhibit is on loan from the Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese-American Archives at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

The event will take place on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at the Visitor Center, Thomas Hudner Memorial, Bldg., Fall River Heritage State Park, 200 Davol Street.

Free refreshments will be served. Free parking is available in the DCR Lot at 5 Water Street in Fall River. An adult must accompany children. Reasonable accommodations are available upon request.
