Fall River Fire Department sees three times the amount of emergencies in three-day period compared to last year’s average

With the historic cold this past weekend, Fall River Firefighters were extremely busy.

According to the FRFD Union, over the course of last year they averaged approximately 20 emergencies per day. From Friday to Sunday, members responded to 184 emergencies, including 2 fires, motor vehicle accidents (1 entrapment where the “Jaws of Life” were used to free the occupant), cardiac arrests, overdoses, downed power lines, Carbon Monoxide Incidents, odor of natural gas and numerous Box Alarms, Still Alarms and broken water/sprinkler pipes.

The day by day break down is below.

Friday: 34 emergencies
Saturday: 86 emergencies
Sunday: 68 emergencies

Engine 12 out of the Stanley Street Station responded to 30 emergencies alone on Saturday, for a total time away from quarters of about 16 hours during the 24-hour shift.
