Fall River Fire Department responds to two separate fires within minutes of each other
Fall River firefighters responded to two separate fires yesterday evening, one of which displaced several residents.
A call came into dispatch just before 6:00 p.m. for a structure fire at 132 Sawdy Pond Avenue. According to the Fall River Fire Department Union, Units responding included Engine companies 4, 5, 9, Ladder 2 and 4, Fall River Fire Dept. Rescue 1 and Car 3. Also dispatched was a response from Tiverton, Rhode Island.
Upon arrival, crews discovered that the fire damage was in the front of the home. Crews worked to ensure the fire was extinguished by performing overhaul operations. Crews used thermal imager cameras and used minimal water to cool and extinguish all fire and hot spots.
South end units remained on scene for about 25 minutes. The last unit cleared just after 6:30 p.m.
At about the same time the last unit was clearing near the Tiverton line, another structure fire was declared at 41 Tremont Street.
This fire resulted in fire damage to the 2nd and 3rd floor. Fire damage was kept to a minimum as crews were able to extinguish the fire in a timely manner using multiple lines operating on the 2nd and 3rd floor at the same time. The union stated that units at this fire included Engine 2, 9,12, Ladder 4 and Platform 1, Heavy Rescue 1 and Car 2. The last unit cleared at around 8:45 p.m.
8 people are currently displaced from the blaze.
The fires are under investigation.
