Fall River Eats: Top Five Chinese Restaurants

Published

on

There is certainly no shortage of American-style Chinese food in Fall River. Last time I checked, there were over twenty restaurants but it’s difficult to keep track as new ones are seemingly popping up all the time. The more the merrier, though if you’re new to the area you may feel overwhelmed with all the options so hopefully this list will guide you.

While I can’t stress enough that this is purely a matter of personal opinion, I believe it offers a decent starting point for those looking to discover what sorts of Asian cuisine Fall River has to offer. I also trust that many of you will chime in with suggestions I may not have tried so hopefully we can all discover something new. Sit back and loosen those belt loops a notch, let’s dig in and discover the best Chinese Food Fall River has to offer!

1. China Star (101 President Avenue)

There’s no way around it, China Star is an eyesore. Tucked discreetly in the middle of an underwhelming shopping plaza, this is not the kind of restaurant whose storefront or signs beg you to enter. True foodies, however, know that you should never judge a book by its cover.

A clean, open kitchen layout that lets you watch every step of the cooking process and huge portions of quality food have allowed China Star to maintain a solid and loyal customer base over the years. Despite the seemingly endless wave of new restaurants in town, China Star has staying power and has long remained a Fall River favorite.

2. Asian House (933 Pleasant Street)

The fact that a Fall River establishment offers delivery to Tiverton, Westport, Somerset and Swansea already grants Asian House a strong nod but unless the food itself also delivers, I wouldn’t include them on this list. And it does. Asian House offers an extensive menu of Chinese, Japanese and Thai dishes and affordable sushi and sashimi in a clean, modern restaurant setting. Some of the food presentations are so artful, they almost look too nice to eat. Almost.

3. Apsara Bistro (418 Quequechan Street)

Like some of the other shops listed here, simply categorizing this as a Chinese restaurant would be doing it a disservice as their menu boasts an inclusive assortment of Thai, Japanese, Cambodian, Laos and Vietnamese options as well as the traditional dishes you’d expect. Their location and the fact they do not deliver makes it easy to overlook Apsara but this quaint little restaurant offers one of the most expansive arrays of Asian cuisine available in the area. You’ll definitely want to try their Pho dishes!

4. Asia One (1355 South Main Street)

While their service has come under some scrutiny, Asia One offers arguably the best sushi you can find in Fall River. With an extensive menu and a deal that’s hard to deny (25% off takeout orders on Mondays and Wednesdays), many Fall River residents have made Asia One their go to for quality, affordable Asian cuisine. The interior is fresh, modern and more akin to a posh inner city night club than a restaurant in the South End of Fall River. Not a bad place to take visitors from out of town who are craving something unique that also won’t break the bank. If you can’t decide on a single dish, try out their Bento Boxes that feature a nice variety of food at an unbeatable price.

5. Quang’s Kitchen (1236 Pleasant Street)

Generous portions. Fast Delivery. Fresh, hot ingredients. Good service. On top of all of this, the prices at Quang’s are reasonable. Their menu consists of the typical fare and I admit, Quang’s is not the first place I think of when I am craving Chinese but I have never been disappointed when ordering from them. Consistency is a quality that can’t be understated when talking about a style of food that is so abundant in this region and if an establishment’s food quality is not reliably good, people have no shortage of other options. You know what you’re getting here and there’s something to be said for that. If you’re a lover of General Tso’s Chicken, you’ll want to give theirs a shot.
