Fall River confirmed COVID-19 cases hit 165, Fall River sees first fatality

The City of Fall River has seen an additional 11 confirmed cases of COVID-19. An increase from yesterday’s total.

According to Mayor Coogan’s Office, there are now 165 confirmed cases in Fall River. 66 cases have been cleared as of Wednesday, however, Fall River has seen the first fatality from the virus.

“Sadly we now have 1 fatality- not good. On another front of the top 40 Covid cities in Massahusetts Fall River ranks 38- a good list to be near the bottom. Stay smart and we will work our way out of this crisis.”

Fall River had seen the biggest one day total since the pandemic began with 19 confirmed cases released on Saturday. The total released Sunday broke that mark with 25. Only 5 additional cases were released on Monday and 8 were seen on Tuesday.

The Fall River Health Department is in contact with the individuals who have tested positive as well as their contacts. These individuals are in isolation and quarantine.

Mayor Coogan’s Office continues to encourage residents to practice social distancing. This means keeping a distance of 6 feet between individuals. Continue to wash your hands on a regular basis, clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, and stay home as much as possible, especially when you are sick. These measures will help to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Library: While the Library remains closed until May 4th the return receptacles are also closed. Please hold onto any items you have. There will be no fines associated with your library items during this period of closure.

Bill pay: Residents are urged to pay bills using the online bill paying systems. Residents can also mail bills or utilize the drop box on the Third Street entrance of Government Center.

Government Center, the Public Libraries, Senior Centers and Schools will remain closed until May 4th.
