Fall River City Council looking to lower Comcast rates due to COVID-19

It is a cause of contention for many city residents.

The Fall River City Council will attempt to tackle those issues this week.

The Council is scheduled to meet on April 14th and on the agenda is a resolution for the Council to request that Comcast adjust rates to reduce the financial impact of COVID-19.

City Councilor Michelle Dionne, who sponsored the resolution, feels that due to several factors, the rates need to be lowered.

“With so many people struggling, children required to use the internet for schoolwork, and for many people who live alone who have virtually no connection to the outside world right now, it just seems logical to me to try and get companies like Comcast to help people in this time of need.”

Comcast customers saw an increase in prices last December. Several fees went up including tv, rental, and return payment. Most internet service plans also saw an increase.

In addition to the rate adjustment resolution, PPE for first responders and a discussion concerning methods to lessen financial burdens on residents and businesses due to the state of emergencies are also on the docket.

Due to the COVID-19 Essential Services Advisory, Government Center is closed to the public which will not allow citizens to attend the meeting in person.
