The City of Fall River has started construction on the Cress Brook Drainage Project. This project consists of improving the drainage path of the old Cress Brook Included in the project are maintenance activities of the North Watuppa interceptor drainage culvert that was built in 1915. The culvert runs to the Eastern side of Route 24 between the highway and the North Watuppa Pond.

The contractor will be removing trees and overgrowth from the sides of the interceptor and cleaning any sedimentation buildup in the base of the culvert. Residents travelling on Route 24 may observe the work being done, but all necessary steps are being taken for the protection of the North Watuppa.

This intercepting drain has protected the North Watuppa Pond, our drinking water supply, for over 100 years. According to the city, this is a necessary step so it continues for years to come.
