EMS, bystanders, help save man stabbed in Fall River
A man’s life was saved Thursday night after a stabbing thanks to a bystander and responders.
A call came into the Fall River Police Department just before 9:30 p.m. for a man who had been stabbed in the leg not far from the intersection of Plymouth Avenue and Tecumseh Street.
Initially, it was thought that the stabbing may have involved an altercation as a large group of people were present, but that was not the case.
According to Lieutenant Jay Huard, investigators have ruled it was a self-inflicted injury and that it was a mental health issue.
The victim was also believed to be intoxicated.
A bystander reportedly applied tourniquets to the man until police and EMS arrived to the scene and rendered aid.
The injured man was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.
The victim’s condition is currently not known.
