Elementary school teacher arrested on child pornography charges

The Rhode Island State Police announce that members of the State Police Computer Crimes Unit and Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force have arrested an elementary school music teacher for possession of child pornography.

Anthony L. Martin, age 52, of 255 Central Street, first floor, Lincoln, Rhode Island was arrested for possession of child pornography, after an investigation was initiated regarding an individual allegedly using the internet connection at 255 Central Street, Lincoln, to access child pornography. Earlier today, ICAC Task Force members executed a search warrant at the address and identified Martin as the alleged owner of digital media used to possess the child pornography. Martin was arraigned at Sixth Division District before Associate Judge Houlihan and was held on $5,000 surety bail with special conditions including no unsupervised contact with children and restricted use of the internet.

Martin is currently employed as an elementary school music teacher in North Providence at Stephen Olney Elementary School and Centredale Elementary School. Martin has been a music and band teacher for over twenty-five (25) years; to include tenures in Providence, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Florida. Martin has been with the North Providence Schools since 1997 and he has taught at both the elementary and middle school level.

A person found guilty of Possession of Child Pornography may be subject to a fine of not more than five thousand dollars ($5,000), or imprisoned not more than five (5) years, or both.
