East Bridgewater man arrested for purchase of online firearm parts

EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Scott Allen reports that the East Bridgewater Police Department arrested and charged a man for illegally possessing multiple firearms, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and 19 large capacity magazines on Friday after having his License to Carry suspended in 2017.

James Kolozie, 31, of East Bridgewater was charged with:

Unlicensed Sale/Possession of an Assault Weapon
Possession of a Firearm Without a FID Card or License to Carry
Possession of Ammunition Without a FID Card or License to Carry
Improper Storage of a Large Capacity Firearm – Rifle
Improper Storage of a Firearm – Handgun
Illegal Possession of a Large Capacity Magazine (19 Counts)

At approximately 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 19, East Bridgewater Police Sgt. Michael McLaughlin was contacted by a special agent from the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The ATF agent was investigating the purchase of stolen firearms parts that Kolozie allegedly made online recently.

Kolozie’s License to Carry was suspended in 2017 and his Firearms Identification Card expired in 2015.

Sgt. McLaughlin and the ATF agent went to Kolozie’s apartment at 31 Central St. in East Bridgewater to speak with him.

Upon speaking with Kolozie and entering the apartment, Sgt. McLaughlin discovered probable cause that Kolozie had illegally been in possession of ammunition at his home.

Kolozie was placed under arrest and a search warrant was subsequently obtained by East Bridgewater Police Detective David Perrault to search his apartment.

Through searching Kolozie’s apartment, officers located and seized a dismantled AR-15 rifle, a 1911 Colt Commander handgun, 19 large capacity magazines, several hundred rounds of ammunition of various sizes, dozens of parts to various firearms and several components for manufacturing ammunition.

Kolozie may be facing additional federal charges as a result of his arrest.

Kolozie is expected to be arraigned on Monday in Brockton District Court.
