Driver transported to trauma center in serious condition after crash on Route 140
A drive was rushed to a local hospital after an early morning crash.
According to the department, the Lakeville Fire Department was sent to Route 140 for a vehicle off the road at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Responders arrived to find a heavily damaged vehicle off the road and into the trees, just south of County Street exit on the north bound side of Route 140.
Firefighters used chainsaws to cut into the vegetation in order to reach the vehicle. Once at the vehicle, hydraulic extrication tools (jaws of life) were used to extricate the patient.
The lone occupant of the vehicle was treated by firefighters for serious injuries. DC Garant (incident commander) directed a call be made for a medical helicopter. The request was withdrawn due to the quick work of firefighters.
The patient was extricated from the vehicle and on the way to the hospital in under 15 minutes from the arrival of firefighters. the patient arrived at St. Lukes Hospital (Level 2 trauma center) at 1:00 a.m.
Firefighters remained on scene during the retrieval of the vehicle from the woods. A section of the guardrail was pushed into the lane of traffic and had to be removed to mitigate the hazard.
All Lakeville responders were back in Town and available by 2:00 a.m. this morning.
