The Fall River Police Department has issued an update concerning vandalism that took place in the city.
According to Det. Sergeant Moses Pereira, on Wednesday, detectives assigned to the Major Crimes Division identified and charged two of the individuals responsible for vandalizing the Iwo Jima War Memorial on January 27, 2024, at Bicentennial Park.
Two 17-year-old males have been arrested and charged with vandalizing the war/veteran’s memorial.
Detectives are in the process of identifying the remaining individuals involved.

Bruce Aldrich, who heads the Marine Corps League, stated that several monuments were vandalized at Veterans Memorial Bicentennial Park including the Iwo Jima monument.
Earlier this week, Aldrich stated he was looking into the best way to get the monuments cleaned up without causing damage to the structures, therefore, he doesn’t want volunteers attempting to clean it themselves until he has all of the information.
The park has been a frequent target of vandals over the years despite having cameras in the area.

The DA office should also refer the complaint to the US Attorney for federal Hate Crime Charges

Glad they caught these morons. These kids need to learn respect for those who gave everything.
They need to be made financially responsible for the cleaning and restoration of these statues. I think some time spent in boot camp would be good too!
Good kids, but the school system has failed them. Had teachers done their job explaining the meaning of the statue, maybe they would have had a protest against the atrocities committed by the United States against Japanese Americans during WWII.
