Driver facing several charges after Freetown head on crash causes serious injuries
An investigation into a Freetown crash has led to multiple charges.
Back on May 30th, Freetown Police reported a serious head-on motor vehicle crash on Slab Bridge Road in their town. The crash resulted in serious bodily injuries for all parties involved. The driver of the gray Ford suffered a broken back and an 18 month old passenger suffered two broken femurs. After a comprehensive collision reconstruction analysis, performed by Officer John Pina, the following has been determined:
The driver of the white Toyota Corolla was Operating Under the Influence and admitted to the initial responders to consuming both cocaine and alcohol. The driver was operating the Corolla on the wrong side of the road at the time of the crash. It was also found that the operator of the Corolla had illegally passed several vehicles just moments before the crash. Through the use of mathematical formulas, Officer Pina concluded that the Corolla was traveling at 56 mph when it collided with the gray Ford. Where the crash occurred on Slab Bridge Road, the posted speed limit is 30 mph. The driver of the Corolla was unlicensed, and was not wearing a seatbelt.
According to Chief Carlton E. Abbott Jr, 14 minutes prior to the crash on Slab Bridge Road the driver of the Corolla had been involved in a hit-and-run crash in the City of New Bedford.
As a result, the driver of the Toyota Corolla is being charged with the following:
– Operating Under the Influence, Causing Serious Bodily Injury (2 counts)
– Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
– Possessing an Open Container of Liquor in a Motor Vehicle
– Unlicensed Operation
– Speeding
– Failure to Keep Right for an Oncoming Vehicle
– Marked Lanes Violation
– Failure to Wear Seatbelt
No other information is being released by Freetown Police at this time.
