Driver faces multiple charges in fatal Providence crash that seriously injured another
A driver faces multiple charges after a Friday morning crash that turned fatal.
According to Rhode Island State Police, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Troopers from the Lincoln Woods Barracks responded to a crash on Route 146 South in the City of Providence.
Subsequent investigation revealed that a White SUV was stopped in traffic on Route 146 South in the high-speed lane by the Admiral Street overpass where it was then rear ended by a box truck, that caused a multi car crash.
The female passenger of the SUV, identified as Frances Furnell, age 78, of North Smithfield, RI, was pronounced dead at the scene and the operator of the SUV was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.
The box truck operator, Andre Gilbert, age 27, of Warwick, RI was charged with Driving to Endanger /Reckless Driving, Death Resulting and Driving to Endanger/Reckless Driving, Serious Bodily Injury.
The crash remains under investigation.
