Driver ejected from vehicle in early morning high speed crash on I-195

An early morning crash resulted in serious injury Sunday.

According to Westport Detective Jeff Majewski, at approximately 3:10 a.m., Dartmouth Police notified Westport Police concerning a white BMW that had failed to stop and was headed on State Road westbound into Westport.

It was reported to Westport Police that the vehicle was traveling in excess of 100 mph.

About 2 miles into Westport, a Westport Officer witnessed the vehicle pass by the Davis Road intersection. The officer immediately lost sight of the BMW and chose to travel on State Road as opposed to other possible turns the car may have taken.

As the officer approached White’s Restaurant, a motorist was out of their car flagging down the officer. The motorist told the officer that the car failed to make a turn and went airborne through a fence over several travel lanes of Route 195 East. Majewski stated that the vehicle rolled over numerous times and the 24 year old New Bedford driver was ejected and was lying in the passing lane of Route 195 westbound.

First responders performed cpr on the driver and the driver was last known to be in critical condition.

Massachusetts State Police and Westport Police investigated the incident with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Unit.

The crash remains under investigation.
