Dog placed on quarantine after biting 80-year-old Raynham man, attacking dog
RAYNHAM — Police Chief James Donovan and Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita report that a dog was placed on a 10-day in-home quarantine last week after the dog jumped over a fence and bit a man and his dog.
At approximately 2:05 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, the Raynham Police and Fire Departments responded to a home on Ward Street for a report of a dog bite.
Upon arrival, officers learned that a German Shepherd left its yard on Reid Street and went to a home on nearby Ward Street and jumped over a fence where an 80-year-old Raynham man was walking his small dog in his yard.
The German Shepherd knocked the man over and attacked the other dog. The man was bit in the hand and forearm and the man’s son and granddaughter came out of the house to separate the two dogs.
The German Shepherd then ran back to its home on Ward Street and was secured by its owner.
Members of the Raynham Fire Department treated the victim and the man declined further medical treatment.
The victim’s dog was bitten on the back of the neck and had an open wound. The dog was subsequently brought to a local animal hospital for treatment.
The Raynham Animal Control Officer also responded to the scene and determined that the German Shepherd would need to go under a 10-day quarantine order. The ACO has also requested that dangerous dog hearing be held.
