DCYF: 4-month-old baby dies due to maltreatment

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (January 27, 2020) – The Department of Children, Youth & Families is disclosing the death of a four-month-old male child from Providence.

The Department had no prior involvement with the four-month-old child. However, DCYF did have prior involvement with one of the parents on a separate case unrelated to this family.

The child died on August 25, 2019. The Department initiated an investigation, and through this investigation, DCYF has confirmed that the child’s death was a result of maltreatment. Pursuant to state law, DCYF notified the Office of the Child Advocate of the report.

Due to confidentiality laws, no additional information is available.

Rhode Islanders are required by law to report known or suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to DCYF within 24 hours of becoming aware of such abuse/neglect. Please call 1-800-RI-CHILD to report known or suspected cases of child abuse.
