Dog dies, 10 people displaced in afternoon Fall River fire
A pet died in an afternoon fire in Fall River on Thursday.
A call came into dispatch at approximately 4:00 p.m. for a fire in the basement of a 3-story residence at 173 Mott Street.
Upon arrival, crews saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the basement windows. The crews brought 2 hose lines into the basement and first floor as other crews performed a primary search and ventilation, according to Deputy Chief Ron Sevigny.
The fire was extinguished and overhauled with the last unit leaving the scene just after 8:00 p.m.
The building department, utility companies and a Fire Investigator were called to the scene.
Utilities were shut off to the structure.
Ten individuals were displaced and were assisted by Emergency Management Agency Chief Richard Aguiar.
No injuries were reported although one dog was deceased.
Residents could be seen removing pets during the blaze.
The fire is under investigation.
