Diman hosting substance abuse prevention event
On Saturday, April 7th from 9 a.m.-11 a.m., Diman Regional High School will be hosting a community forum entitled “Power in Prevention” that will be open to all youth, athletes, parents, and the greater community regarding substance abuse prevention for our youth.
Speakers for the event will feature Representative Carole Fiola, who will be providing opening remarks, followed by the passionate program “Cory’s Cause”. Cory was a varsity baseball and football athlete and a member of the National Honor Society. His Junior year of high School he suffered a shoulder injury which required surgery. After surgery Cory was prescribed opiates for pain and became addicted to his opiate pain medication and eventually became addicted to heroin. On 7/15/13 Cory suffered a heroin overdose which has left him permanently disabled.
SSTAR will be providing further information related to the correlation between athletes and opioid addiction, as well as information pertaining to social host law.
All are welcome to attend, and further information (including RSVP) can be found on the attached flier.
