DIGHTON — Police Chief Robert MacDonald reports that the Dighton Police Department responded to and investigated a verbal threat made by a student at Dighton Middle School.

On Thursday, January 23rd, Dighton Police received information from school administrators that a student at the Middle School had uttered a general threat to harm students at the school.

Dighton Police Detective Ryan Richards and School Resource Officer Michael Marshall immediately began a thorough investigation.

The investigation determined that the student had expressed a general desire to harm others, he lacked the means or intent to carry out the threat. Officials have determined that the threat was unsubstantiated and that there is no danger to the school community.

The police department has turned the matter over to school district officials.

“The safety of our school community is always a top priority for our department,” said Chief MacDonald. “I would like to commend the Dighton Police Department and the Dighton Middle School administration for their diligence and quick responses to ensure the safety of the school community. We take all threats and perceived threats seriously.”
