Dighton Police identify suspects after discovering racist and anti-Semitic graffiti

Police have identified suspects concerning some disturbing graffiti in their town.

Late last week, the Dighton Police Department was notified about a tagging/graffiti incident at the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School.

The Department issued a statement relaying their displeasure over what they saw.

“What was found was beyond inexcusable. In working with the DRRHS administration, SRO Hathaway and Det. Richards set out immediately to find those responsible for defacing DRRSD property with abhorrent racist and anti-Semitic phrasing and symbols. Through this collaboration and hard work over the weekend, parties of interest were identified and charges are now forthcoming.”

The statement went on to say how upset the department was over the graffiti, particularly considering what takes place in February.

“To say that this is both sad and extremely disappointing would be an understatement. And, as we celebrate Black History month, the insensitivity of this act is sickening. Behavior, dialogue and utter hate like this does not belong in any community and we’re confident in speaking for our neighbors in Rehoboth that this is not what our communities are about and it is not something that we will stand for. We will always take a zero-tolerance approach to hate because there is no place for it…anywhere!”

Dighton Police encourage parents to address the issue with their children.

“Parents, it all starts with us. It starts with having conversations with our kids and helping them to understand that actions have consequences and when those actions involve content as disturbing as what was done in our community and to our community, “sorry” just doesn’t cut it. We can only hope that those involved will see the negative impact that their foolish actions have now caused and that real people get affected by the selfish and utterly ignorant acts of a few.”

Police did not release information on the suspects.
