Despite heroics of first responders, Massachusetts man dies after driving into water
BROCKTON – A Carver man has died after driving his motor vehicle off a dirt road into a body of water, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
At approximately 7:49 p.m. last night, Carver Police received a 911 call for a report of a car into the water in the vicinity of 7 Holmes Street. First responders arrived on scene and located the sole occupant of the motor vehicle, an unresponsive male, who had been removed from the motor vehicle by people on scene. The male victim was transported to Beth Israel Hospital in Plymouth where he was pronounced dead. He has been identified as 35-year-old Brendan McGaffigan.
Carver Police contacted Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office to begin an investigation. Preliminarily, as a result of interviews conducted with witnesses on scene, it appears McGaffigan drove off of the dirt road down an embankment into a pond and the motor vehicle landed upside down in water, trapping him in the truck. The area where the motor vehicle left the roadway appeared wet and muddy, and narrow in certain parts.
Family have created a GoFundMe for expenses incurred due to Brendan’s untimely death.
McGaffigan has been described by those that knew him as a selfless, kind, and all-around amazing person with a smile that could light up a room and a goofy personality and laugh.
The fundraiser has raised over $4,200 as of this writing.
The investigation is ongoing.
