Despite best efforts by officers and paramedics, Bristol County man dies from self-inflicted stab wounds
A Massachusetts man is dead after self-inflicted wounds.
According to Ronald A. Sellon, Jr., Chief of Police, at just after 3:15 a.m., the South Eastern Massachusetts Regional 911 Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a man threatening to kill himself inside of a home on Monahan Lane in Mansfield. The caller, a woman inside the house, reported that the man, known to her, was not threatening anyone other than himself.
As officers were en route to the home, Dispatch reported the subject was armed with a knife and was now actively stabbing himself. Officers arrived on the scene in less than one minute and immediately entered the home, locating the subject in the kitchen area. The man was found to be suffering from apparent, serious wounds, and the officers began life-saving measures while paramedics were brought to the scene and took over care.
Mansfield Fire, with an officer on board, transported the subject to the hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds. The incident remains under investigation by the Mansfield Police Department Detective Division and the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
