Department of Children, Youth & Families announces fatality of 1.5-year-old infant
Providence, R.I. — The Department of Children, Youth & Families has disclosed the fatality of a 1 1/2-year-old infant.
According to DCYF, the incident occurred on January 19, 2023, and the infant was determined to be from Cranston.
The Department had no previous involvement with the family.
DCYF initiated an investigation and through this investigation, determined neglect contributed to this fatality.
Pursuant to state law, DCYF notified the Office of the Child Advocate of the report.
Due to confidentiality laws, DCYF could not share additional information.
Rhode Islanders are required by law to report known or suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to DCYF within 24 hours of becoming aware of such abuse/neglect. Call 1-800-RI-CHILD to report known or suspected cases of child abuse.
