A dedication is set to take place this month to honor a 14-year-old Fall River teen that was killed in a shooting.

Miguel Angel Sanjurjo passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at Griffin Park in Fall River.

According to family, Miguel was born in Brooklyn and was a student at the Fall River Resiliency Preparatory School. Miguel was well liked by his teachers and friends and loved to play basketball, ride his moped, and hang out with his large and extended family.

On the two-year anniversary of his death, a memorial bench dedication will take place at 4:00 p.m. at the park where he died.

According to Miguel’s mother Glarissa Soto Laboy, a bench at the park will display her son’s name. There will also be a balloon release. Glarissa stated that Mayor Coogan is expected to be in attendance. Those attending the service are asked to wear white shirts.

29-year-old Jovaughn Mills was also a victim in the shooting that killed Sanjurjo. A third shooting victim, a 19-year-old Fall River man, recovered.

In late May of 2021, Jeremy Holmes was arrested and accused of allegedly firing multiple rounds into a crowd in Griffin Park and was charged with two counts of murder and one count of assault and battery by means of a firearm. His case is still pending.
