DCYF reports near death of nine-month-old due to suspected abuse

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (November 6, 2020) –A nine-month-old male child from Bristol was admitted to Hasbro Children’s Hospital on October 23. The family did not have prior DCYF involvement.

The Department has conducted an investigation and has determined that the child’s condition is likely to have been the result of maltreatment.

Pursuant to state law, DCYF notified the Office of the Child Advocate of the report.

Due to confidentiality laws, DCYF are prohibited from sharing additional information.

Rhode Islanders are required by law to report known or suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to DCYF within 24 hours of becoming aware of such abuse/neglect. Please call 1-800-RI-CHILD to report known or suspected cases of child abuse.
