DCYF: Near fatality of 23-month-old child likely due to maltreatment

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (June 19, 2020) –A 23-month-old female child from Providence was admitted to Hasbro Children’s Hospital on June 12 due to a near fatality.

According to DCYF, the family had prior DCYF involvement, but they were not open to the Department at the time of the child’s admission.

The Department has conducted an investigation and has determined that the child’s condition is likely to have been the result of maltreatment.

Pursuant to state law, DCYF notified the Office of the Child Advocate of the report.

Due to confidentiality laws, DCYF is prohibited from sharing additional information.

Rhode Islanders are required by law to report known or suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to DCYF within 24 hours of becoming aware of such abuse/neglect.
