Daytime and nighttime work expected on Route 44 until September 2022
DIGHTON/TAUNTON – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is announcing that it will be conducting daytime and nighttime pavement resurfacing operations and related work on sections of Route 44 (Winthrop Street) in Dighton and Taunton. The resurfacing work on Route 44 (Winthrop Street) will begin in Dighton at the Rehoboth town line and continue easterly to the end of the state highway layout in Taunton east of the intersection with Warner Boulevard.
The resurfacing operations are scheduled to begin on Monday, March 15, 2021, and will continue through September 2022. The work will occur during daytime hours with some operations being performed at night as follows:
Daytime resurfacing operations will be conducted weekly from Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Overnight resurfacing operations will be conducted weekly from Sunday through Thursday from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following day.
The work will include milling and overlay of the existing pavement structure of Route 44. The work will also include pavement restriping, replacement of catch basin frame and grates, adjustment of drainage structures, and the construction of a concrete sidewalk with granite edging. Traffic signage will be updated along with guardrail placement and repair. In addition, there will be some minor bridge deck work at the Winthrop Street Bridge over the Segregansett River and at the Winthrop Street Bridge over the Three Mile River. The bridge decks will undergo pavement fine milling and will then be repaved.
Standard traffic management operation will be used including advanced warning signs, traffic control devices and police details to convey traffic through the work zone.
The work will require the temporary closure of travel lanes in the areas where the work is taking place. A minimum of one lane of traffic will be maintained on Route 44 at all times during work hours.
Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.
All scheduled work is weather dependent and/or may be impacted due to an emergency.
