Day of Portugal in Fall River postponed, sets possible new date

A festival that brings food, faith, and entertainment to the city will be postponing with a hope of holding the event later in the year.

Day of Portugal Fall River, which takes place every year at the Gates of the City, canceled the event last year along with almost every major public outdoor event due to COVID-19.

The event issued a statement this morning on social media.

“In light of the current public health concerns, due to the Global pandemic of COVID-19 and after considering all the risks to everyone’s health, our committee have decided to postpone our event slated for June 19-21, and moving it to August 19 thru 22 if we are allowed by city and State Officials It is disappointing for us to have to postpone again our much long-awaited and hard-earned plans and to make 2021 a memorable year, but we can see the light at the end of the tunnel, the numbers are slowly coming down.”

“Let’s hope that this setback is only temporary, and that in August we are finally able to hold this event. Please, keep in mind that if we don’t have our health, then we have nothing. While those of us with stronger immune systems might not be as affected, we don’t want to be a carrier and unintentionally expose someone who might be more susceptible to illness, so please be considerate of others and stay home as much as you can. Be safe everyone.”

One of the more popular events in Fall River typically features Portuguese and American singing acts, along with food from area restaurants.
